I Pray To God To Give Me Him

I pray to God to give me him

Whose face the sun adores

And smartly colors his visage

The tan of virgin shores

A mouth to kiss, I dream about

His lips that fit with mine

And should we meet in tenderness

Its warmth should be divine

Eyes that close when’er we kiss, entranced

By nobler scenes

Brown eyes that pierce through my existence

Cries when I shall cease

A hand to tightly clasp in mine

Steadfast, it won’t let go

A hand to lead me, lift me up

When in weakness I wallow

With legs like brass, sinews like steel

We’ll climb life’s serpentine road

And when my own they slow me down

With joy carry my load

And if it’s not too much to ask

His heart should be genuine

And when he plays me songs

Of love, possessed by every line

With a mind engrossed in the search

Of truth, till triumphant will not rest

With a mind keen for the legitimate pursuits

Deems freedom best

I pray to God to give me him

The one that I adore

And if in wondrous blessedness

He knocks — to leave me nevermore.
