i saw a tree

I saw a stately tree from afar

Across the meadow where I waited for love

It waved at me with its steady charms

Against the twilight mauve

The wind was blowing but it didn’t bend

It held its ground ‘neath darkening skies

In due season, a serenade

Of flowers or fruits transpires

I turned my back from the stately tree

Across the meadow where I left my love

It waved goodbye without remorse

Against the twilight mauve
