Berso # 2 by Maningning Miclat

Verse # 2
By Maningning Miclat (Filipina Poet)
Translated in English by Ruth Mostrales

I passed by the silent river,
The whole world seemed to sleep,
Should a fruit plunge in the water,
It’s my heart that’s being shattered, it seems.

Don’t think about me if I’m lonely,
Don’t try to look for me in the dark,
While tears yet remain, don’t love me,
In my dreaming, don’t ever rouse.

I can wait for your verses,
Listen from the song of the other side,
And discover while I’m walking,
The dew and tears of the flower and grass.

Will watch the dance of the firefly,
Will listen to the bird that’s chirping,
Will ease the heart that’s restless,
And lie down finally in the peaceful evening.

I passed by the silent river,
The whole world seemed to sleep,
Shall a fruit have plunged in the water,
It’s my heart that’s being shattered, it seems.
